Which companies should participate?
Your company! Contend to End Hunger is open to companies across all industries. Generally, corporations participate in Contend to End Hunger, but everyone is welcome, including associations and networks. A few other ways to know your company is a good fit:
- If you’re headquartered in Central Texas-based or if you’re a Central Texas branch/office of a nation-wide company
- If you’re a company of hundreds of employees or dozens
- If you have a corporate social responsibility (CSR) staff member, a giving committee, or simply a caring team. We make Contend to End Hunger accessible and easy for any level.
What if we are a small company?
Join us! Every $1 creates 2 meals, so any level of donations your team raises make an impact. Throughout the challenge, companies will be acknowledged based on a variety of accomplishments, including donation totals by employee. Even if your fundraising total isn’t the biggest, we will know your employees are making a huge effort to fight hunger.
Donations
What’s the impact of a donation?
$10 covers the groceries provided to a neighbor in need at one of our Food Bank distributions. You’re welcome to share your fundraising target and progress, or donations in terms of meal impact. For example, share that a donation of $100 will provided groceries for 10 neighbors in need.
What if I collect donations before November 18th? Will they count towards my company’s total?
Yes. The purpose of Contend to End Hunger is to come together to raise meals in a way that best fits your company’s structure and employees’ needs.
We have an existing donation management platform (i.e. Benevity). Can we still participate?
Yes, companies are welcome to use their existing systems! We just ask that you report your donation totals from these platforms to Food Bank staff on a weekly basis. Your company will have a page on the campaign page and Food Bank staff will upload your donation so you can see how your company stacks up against other participants.
What if my company wants to make a direct donation?
That’s amazing! An amazing way to double the impact of the donation is to offer it as a match for your fundraiser. By matching fundraiser donations, your employees will know that their $1 creates 4 meals – double the impact!
See the question below for instructions on securely sending your donation to the Food Bank.
What if I collected donations outside of the donation portal, for example cash or checks?
What if I collected donations outside of the donation portal, for example cash or checks?
Wonderful! Let’s make sure these donations make it to the Central Texas Food Bank and count toward your fundraising total.
Cash or checks can be mailed and should include your company name, for example “[Company Name] Contend to End Hunger” and be mailed to:
Central Texas Food Bank
Attn: Contend to End Hunger
6500 Metropolis Dr
Austin, TX 78744
Dropping off donations in person is not recommended right now, but if needed, we can accept donations totaling $500+ at our headquarters (address above). If you would like to make a donation drop-off, please contact Jasmine White at jwnhite@centraltexasfoodbank.org to schedule a time.
If you are collecting donations on JustGiving, these offline donations can still count towards your page total. Simply send the donation total to Tara and she will update your page total.
What happens when someone donates on the JustGiving platform?
When someone makes a donation on your JustGiving fundraising page, donations go directly to the Central Texas Food Bank and are used where they are needed most and to serve Central Texans at risk of hunger. The Central Texas Food Bank has been awarded Charity Navigator's highest rating and ninety-six percent of donations go directly to support programs.
As for the donor’s experience, after a donation is given, the donor will receive an automatic email from JustGiving to confirm their gift.
Can donations be anonymous on JustGiving?
Yes. A donor has the option to hide their name and/or donation amount. For instructions on how, check out this article.
